Why study BTEC Sports?
An exciting course for anyone who has an interest in Physical Education and Sport to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in a range of physical activities.
It provides an opportunity to improve performance in chosen activities through both hands on practical work and a study of all aspects that lead to improvement. It also provides the opportunity to learn the various procedures and skills associated with coaching, leadership and health and safety issues.
Following this course offers a variety of employment prospects e.g. coaching, teaching, sport and leisure management and sports treatment.
Entry Requirements
You should attain C grade or higher in Physical Education at GCSE.
What is the content of the course?
During Year 12 the students will be required to complete the first three modules and a further four modules in Year 13 which will result in a BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport. The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport is broadly equivalent to one GCE A Level.
You should gain a grade C or higher in Physical Education at GCSE. It is possible for students to re-visit Physical Education if they did not study the subject at GCSE level. All cases will be considered individually.
Key skills are an integral part of studying Physical Education, and there are a number of opportunities for their application and assessment e.g. communication, problem solving, working with others, improving one’s own performance.

Unit 1: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport
Unit 2: The Physiology of Fitness
Unit 3: Assessing Risk in Sport
Year 2 - [Year 13]
Unit 4: Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
Unit 5: Practical Team Sports / Practical Individual Sports
Unit 6: Leadership in Sport
Unit 7: Psychology for Sports Performance
This unit aims to develop the learners’ own practical sports performance in team sports, focusing on the application of skills, techniques and tactics. This is achieved through participation in practical activities, and reflection on their performances and those of other performers. (100% coursework)
Assessment
The course is assessed through coursework format (100%).
Possible Careers
BTEC Sports gives learners the opportunity to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector or to progress to higher education vocationl qualifications such as the Edexcel BTEC Higher Nationals in Sport.
