At the beginning of the course you will undertake a series of short projects in order to increase your experiences and develop your skills. Then you will select a brief question as a base to your project. You will be expected to combine skills of understanding and information in order to design and make produce from a high standard by
- Analyse a design brief.
- Identify essential criteria for inclusion in the specification, prioritise and use them to develop designs.
- Use existing products as a source of ideas.
- Use different research strategies to find information.
- Consider environmental issues.
- Use different media to represent themes
- Evaluating the ideas in a mature way
- Use a variety of techniques to produce the final idea
- Demonstrate a confident use of IT
- Recognise the moral, cultural and environmental issues inherent in Design and Technology
Assessment
The assessment is comprised of two components:
- Textiles Task (60%) - a controlled design and make assessment task (30 guided hours).
- Written Paper 2 hours (40 %) - candidates will be required to sit an examination of two hours' duration (split into two sections), set and marked by the WJEC.
Assessment for GCSE Textiles is untiered i.e. all components/units cater for the full range of ability and allow access to grades A*-G for the subject award.
